Installation Process
UNDERGROUND INSTALLATION
- After signing up for fiber service, you will receive an email to schedule your installation.
- Prior to the installation, a local crew will mark the underground utilities.
- The day of the installation, a technician will perform a free site survey with the customer to determine the best path for the fiber line. The technician will also determine where to install the Optical Network Terminal box in the home.
- Our crews will pull the fiber line from the Idaho Falls Fiber utility box into your home, either through existing electrical conduit or by digging a small trench for new conduit. The fiber enters the home at the location agreed upon during the site survey. Technicians will install the Optical Network Terminal box and ensure your new fiber service is up and running.
OVERHEAD INSTALLATION
- After signing up for fiber service, you will receive an email to schedule your installation.
- The day of the installation, a technician will perform a free site survey with the customer to determine the best path for the fiber line. The technician will also determine where to install the Optical Network Terminal box in the home. Our crews will pull the fiber line from the power pole into your home. Typically, the fiber line will enter your home where the power attaches. Crews will install the Optical Network Terminal box and ensure your new fiber service is up and running.
CONNECTING FIBER
- A technician will install the Optical Network Terminal on the wall. We do not provide routers. If you want Wi-Fi throughout your home, you will need a router. We recommend a router that can handle up to one gigabit. You may also contact your service provider for router recommendations.
- Our technician will run a speed test to ensure everything is running properly before leaving your home.

RENTALS
Please note: If you rent your home, landlord/owner approval is required to install the fiber optic box. You can find a landlord approval form here. Once completed, email the form to iffibersignups@idahofalls.gov. If you are in a rental home and do not have landlord consent, we will not be able to complete your install.
